Interventional Radiology Services

Many conditions that once required surgery can now be treated with interventional radiology (IR). When compared to open surgery, minimally invasive IR treatments result in:

  • Less risk of complications
  • Less pain
  • Faster recovery

Interventional radiologists use embolization to block one or more blood vessels or abnormal vascular channels to treat certain conditions. IR is currently available to treat:

Enlarged prostate (BPH) [LINK to Conditions/Enlarged prostate (BPH)]

For men with an enlarged prostate (BPH), an IR procedure called prostate artery embolization (PAE) [LINK to Treatment/BPH/PAE] shrinks the prostate by cutting off its blood supply.

Varicoceles [LINK to Conditions/Varicoceles]

PSMA PET/CT Imaging

This new scanning technique can detect prostate cancer that is often missed with other scans. The prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) scan helps doctors:

  • Locate cancer in the prostate and in other parts of the body if it has spread
  • Monitor the effectiveness of treatments already underway for prostate cancer
  • Plan treatment for newly diagnosed or recurrent prostate cancer

With its remarkable precision, the PSMA PET/CT imaging is significantly improving prostate cancer detection.
